Although the post processing I do is adequate I am tending towards doing a little more creative editing. This is a complete departure from where I started 2 years ago.
Currently use Lightroom and I'd say I'm at an intermediate level so at the weekend I started an advanced course run by the club.
The first two images don't have any more processing than I have done previously, reflecting reality. Although I did use different techniques.
The last two I pushed the creativity a little, the last one maybe a lot....
...you decide.

Leisurely Fridays
Friday morning, cold and clear, magnificently misty. Decided to only use the 70-300mm to do some landscape work. Quite liked the ability to focus right in on details. Yet still had to crop the image...
Also took some time with the camera away from my face just to take it all in.
Saturday, had me in the vicinity of Merri Creek, not a normal part of the world for me but again the clear blue sky promised some warmth, I forgot I was in Melbourne, it was a little brisk. The trees are in bloom so we must be on the way to spring.

The Interclub - 3rd Place...
When I bought my camera a few years ago I joined a club to improve my photography getting tips and keeping motivated to improve. The club puts on an annual interclub competition, it's a monochrome competition against 5 other clubs, some of them not so local...
Knox Photo Society (the club I belong to) - http://kps.org.au/
Maroondah Photographic Society - http://www.mpsociety.org.au/
Ringwood Black and White Camera Club - http://ringwoodblackandwhitecameraclub.blogspot.com.au/Rosanna Photographic Club - http://rosannaphotoclub.com/

Williamstown Camera club - http://www.williamstowncameraclub.com.au/
4 catergories
Print and Electronic Digital Image (EDI) although I thing I'm meant to call these projected images...
Novice and Open
There was an initial culling of images, we could submit 4 images from each of the categories and the club competition committee chose the best to go forward to the interclub.
Below are the images I submitted 4 in print (5x7) and 4 EDI
The EDI's
The "rickety bridge" is an old trestle bridge on a disused railway although it wasn't chosen I will submit this for an evaluation later to see if by itself it stand up to scrutiny.
I think this will end up as a larger print with a few other mono flowers I have.
During the evening there was a comment that portraits do well due to our psychological programming regarding people and faces perhaps this is why this image didn't get to represent. Then again it may have been the square format cropping which perhaps doesn't suit a landscape?
The Prints
As a novice only 5x7 prints are allowed (soon there is a rule change to this) but a 5x7 is not that impressive so I might get a couple of these done at a larger size.
This magnolia could have done with a little more texture in the petals.
This closely cropped image of an Austin 7 will go well in the shed. This was taken on my old 5 megapixel Olympus.
Another Olympus image from the snow that fell in Olinda some 8 years ago. Probably a bit soft through the fog, this was purposely "blue" to reflect the cold.
The image that did the best for me on the night. An image from a hill looking back towards where we live. I love taking these misty morning shots and try to go out whenever there's a misty weekend morning. This managed a 3rd in the Novice Print category and will certainly get printed at a larger size the next time the club send off images for printing and at sometime in the future I might get it printed on some fine art paper to bring out even more of the detail in the mist.

Morning in Melbourne
A long time between posts, not at all the aim of this project...
However I have been out taking pictures, there's just been a few other things to do as well.
Early morning on Sunday had me driving towards the city of Melbourne. I was meant to meet up with a bunch of intrepid KPS members but didn't read the instructions properly...
Knowing that there were some balloons in the area I went balloon chasing, with is a little more difficult on foot and I have a current painful reminder that I have a desk job every time I move...
The sky was completely cloudless with no features but thought the MCG was probably enough to at least indicate where I was.
Never did find the other club members...

Playing in the Park after Dark
Wednesday night saw me driving into the city of Melbourne something that I try to avoid. However one of my fellow Knox Photo Society Members had put me onto the Canon Collective. They were running a free session on lightpainting, I'm up for free stuff so decided to give it a go...
The session was fun and gave me some very creative ideas to try in the back paddock after a visit to the $2 shop to buy some glowing things.
Also found quite a few night time shots that I need to go back for.
and I need a model.

No time to spare
All weekend I've been attending an intensive couple of sessions with some well known photographers trying to get some tips.
Les Walkling, Andrew Chapman, Jaime Murcia & Michael Silver.
On the way home I went Fungus hunting and I'm adding to the storeys of the Fairy house...
